Regarding Rural Electrification Schemes in the state, to date the federal government has allocated a total sum of RM1.4 billion for the implementation of RES projects in the state under the NKRA Programme for the period 2009 - 2012. This allocation is for the implementation of 815 grid extensive. 14 solar hybrid and 1 micro hydro projects which will benefit about 48,000 households. In addition, an amount of RM350 million is allocated for the implementation of projects in 2012/2013.

At present, 531 of RES projects had been completed and the remaining projects including the solar hybrid & micro hydro projects are in various stages of implementation. Number of houses that had been connected with grid electricity supply to date is about 28,000. The grid electricity coverage is now 77% of the rural population and is expected to increase up to 87% by year 2014.

An RES Geographical Information System (GIS) map has been developed with the assistance of SEB. The planning is also based on RES applications received.
